18th-Nov-2009 12:23 pm - Digital Shotgun Represent!
rage
My first real attempt at art in its physical form!
So far everything I've done has been created digitally.
I've never felt comfortable with my free hand skills.
This, I would say falls somewhere in between.

I pretty happy with the way it came out.

Stage 1 : Taped the 'Shotgun' in my logo over to protect it from the spray. Then, covered the entire deck in white.

Stage 2 : Covered up everything except the 'Digital' and the lines and sprayed them black.

Stage 3 : Removed all tape and cover, sanded the entire deck, then added a layer of clear coat.

Stage 4 : Let dry, then remounted trucks. Complete!

What do you think?
This board found its permanent home on the hatch tray of my car.

14th-Oct-2009 02:42 pm - Hello Winter
rage
So i've been told by everyone up here, 'get ready for a real winter'.
Oh man, glad i work from home and don't have to go out in this weather. It's been down in the 40°s at night and not much better during the days. The sun comes out every once in a while. Too little for this Southern California heart.

However, I do love how clean it is up here. The air, so crisp. Trees everywhere. You know, those things that give us air? Yeah, got a bunch of 'em. :)

I can't wait to come down and visit you, dirty, smoggy, Los Angeles. You're deeply missed.
Till then, here's what I'm currently enjoying...

1st-Oct-2009 12:31 am - transit studio
rage
transit studio's official website just launched as of midnight.
i felt a huge sense of relief as the final changes were made and uploaded to the server moments before it's expected launch.

i knew everything was in place as of this morning, yet, i still couldn't help my muscles tense or the chills that ran down my back as i watched the clock hit 11:59pm.
the idea that something would go wrong or essentially 'break' right before launch somehow made itself a fear to be reckoned with.

my voice shaken, i called jeff to announce the start of a new day.
everything running as smoothly as tested for the past couple of months.

hat's off to the fine 'gents of transit studio.
now get on tour and come visit me!

2nd-Sep-2009 05:08 pm - new beginnings
rage
just moved to Washington state near Olympia.
job market looks quite a bit better up here then back in Southern California.
i already miss it though.

miss my friends, the nightlife, and especially the awesome beaches.
the weather has been kind to me since arriving last Saturday.
actually really happy i'm nowhere near the current fires and ash.
last time that happened, i was bed ridden for a few days with terrible allergies.

drove into downtown Olympia today to look for freelance work.
Tattoo and Music shops mostly.
stumbled upon a Graphics Communication business.
talked to the owner, Doug. real helpful guy.
gave me the names of a few places i should check out for work in the local area as well as hooking me up with an awesome deal on printing my business cards.

so far, i'm kind of stoked to be here.
i'll return to SoCal one day, but until then, it's time to get to work!  :)

13th-Aug-2009 04:05 pm - Les Paul
rage
For everything you have given to the music industry...
The timeless Gibson,  the advent of multi-track recordings,
and all the great hits along the way, this world will forever
be grateful to you, Sir Les Paul.

You will be missed, terribly.

i suggest everyone try this out and try to get up to at LEAST level 10.
there's a certain sense of accomplishment when you figure it out that's far too addicting to quit.
i'm stuck on level 53 right now.
how about you??? :)

20th-May-2009 09:03 am - out with the old
rage
in with the new.

ctrl alt designs is no more.
I've been getting a lot of feedback from friends and clients about how it's just not that easy to remember.
people like to spell out "control" and it's inefficient to have to constantly tell people there's an "s" at the end of "designs".

I am now going under my new name, digital shotgun. :)
two words everyone is very familiar with and as far as I can tell, you CAN'T mess up the spelling.
hah, famous last words.

also made the decision to base my knowledge and expertise around coding rather than design.
why? because everyone and their mom already does graphic design.
I'm already further along in coding, why not specialize in something that can compliment what they already do better than I?

plus, I see great opportunities for partnering up with them to make some real money.
coding is what pays out the most because it's tedious and a lot of times, annoying.
that aspect doesn't bother me too much because on a $15k website design and build, if I do the coding, my work is worth about $12k of that. :)

as time progresses, my knowledge and experience grow.
my resume is building up nicely to the point where I can safely add javascript to it and not be afraid of someone actually asking for me to code it.
css is in the bag now which I'm way stoked on, and soon I'll be tinkering around with php on the backend.
all of which just makes my life as a coder, easier.

more to come..
I've really dropped off the entries in my lj, but things are coming together nicely and I'll soon have a lot to talk about. unlike all the nonsense twittering. hah.

6th-May-2009 08:20 am - altruistic project
rage
working on a web comp for Altruistic Clothing, Skate, & Cycle.

the owner, Ron, is a really nice guy and his shop is siiiick.
or "steezy" as he would say. haha
apparently it means "hip".
my first attempt at a true "web 2.0" site with a shopping cart!
stoked.

can't wait to get this on my portfolio, which, by the way, I really dislike now.
will be redesigning that after this project is near complete.

still open for work, so let's get your favorite asian some design jobs!
